It’s a new year, and many people are re-evaluating some of their life choices. New Year’s resolutions are the perfect opportunity to make those lifestyle changes you keep intending to make. Take it as a fresh start, and set a new intention that will positively impact the world.
Your 2018 Intention: prevent as much harm to the environment as possible
Intentions are the start of every dream. Once your intention is set, you immediately start to view your choices a little bit differently. Heading to work? You think twice about taking the car. At the grocery store? You start to notice non-eco packaging, and opt for the most eco-friendly choice.
Yet even with your Eco Intention to guide the way, follow our five tips below to make it the most eco-friendly year yet. And don’t worry, they are all super easy to stick to. Before you know it you’ll be following your eco resolutions without any effort.
5 Easy Eco Resolutions
Repurpose items like aluminium cans, plastic, paper, and glass instead of throwing them away. Try keeping separate containers for each type of item. You never know when that glass bottle would make a fun decoration, or when you’ll need plastic for that mixed media project.
2. Conserve Water and Electricity
Do you need to keep the faucet on while brushing your teeth? Is there a reason why all the lights are on in the house? Would you need to blast the heater 24/7 if your home was properly insulated? Is that load of laundry actually full? Conserving water and electricity doesn’t have to be rocket science. Just start asking questions. It just takes a little awareness in the beginning.
3. Drive Less, Walk More
It’s as simple as taking public transportation, riding your bike or carpooling in with your office mates to save fuel and reduce your carbon footprint.
4. Eco-friendly Shopping
Buy locally grown products whenever possible to reduce your carbon footprint, and remember to bring your grocery bag. You can also opt for energy efficient products with 5 start energy rating, which consume less energy. Going shopping? Buy organic or sustainable clothes instead of clothing made from synthetic materials. And don’t forget to cancel your newspaper or magazine subscriptions! Instead, read the news online.
5. Prevent Littering
Aside from the obvious, you may not know that paint, oil, ammonia and other strong chemical solutions should never be thrown on the ground. They actually seep into the ground, and pollute our water.
